Suggest Treatment For Soreness On The Penis Head

Question: I've had a raw area on my penis head for about 3 years now. It started when I went swimming in the ocean and it happened from rubbing against my swimsuit. I thought lotion would heal it but it did nothing. I used Vaseline and that did nothing. After about a year I went to the doctor and he said I just need tighter boxers to reduce friction so I did that and nothing happened. Then I went to a dermatologist and he had no idea what to do. Is there a special cream or lotion that deals with moisturizing and healing skin on the penis tip? I've read about penis creams but I'm not sure about trying one. It seems like every moisturizing cream doesn't penetrate the skin and heal/moisturizer it. Is there a cream out there that is specifically for that that you would recommend?

Brief Answer:
Could also be due to fungal infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. I think that a fungal infection could possibly complicating the friction issue. I would insist you to apply candid (clotrimazole) lotion, an antifungal, a few times a day and see if that helps. Alternatively, you can use candid (clotrimazole) powder to keep the area dry.

Brief Answer:
The steroid will make the lesion come back.

Thanks for writing back. Sorry for not being able to respond faster.

I have checked the attached image. The medicine that the urologist prescribed is not the same. It contains a steroid in combination. This would help in faster resolution but would also make it come back faster. Please stop using it. If you need, use plain clotrimazole.

I would insist you to upload an image of the sore. Let me see what I can make out of it.

No problem and it is just like a red rough area that is very sensative. I cant run around or do anything active because it becomes to irritated. I have to bandaid toilet paper around it to do anything active. Can i get just plain clotrimazole and a walgreens or walmart? Also it just seems like the affected area wont absorb moisturizers and wont heal becaus of it. e

Brief Answer:
Not unusual.

Let me mention that the glans of the penis is expected to be sensitive. Circumcision exposes this area so that gradual friction desensitises it. Till then you would have to bear with it. It is not unusual to get irritation or sensitiveness over this area.

You can get clotrimazole over the counter at any pharmacy; cannot say about Walmart. Nothing else needs to be applied.

It has been like this for three years though and wont get better. It was normal before. Im not having sex or doing something that would add to the uncomfortableness. Its always irritative no matter what i do.

I have another question, wouldnt it have spread and gotten a lot worse if it was a fungal thing?

I picked up some clotrimazole and will see if it helps. I also picked up some petroleum jelly. Can i try and use that too or should i use one at a time?

Brief Answer:
Can be used together.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks again for writing back. You can use clotrimazole and petroleum jelly together. See if that helps.

It is not necessary that if it is due to fungal cause, worsening should have occurred. However, the component of doubt remains and it is hard to give you an easy solution in a case like yours.
