Dr. Albania I take. Medication to avoid. Diabetes metformin500mg twice a day,metoprolol50mg twice daily. Other medications are levoxyl140,simvastin40md daily, cymbalta120 daily, vitamins.i have been to many doctors and had a biopsy, punch biopsy, blood drawn. It started with a mosquito bite. I have had it two years and no one tells me what to do. I have alway been healthy until I was 63 I was in an aumobile accident and my spleen burst. Two years ago I had a spinal lamonectmy and back fusion.this is ruling my life. I can send photos in an email now. XXXXXXX XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi back dear XXXXXXX
Sorry for the late reply due to my XXXXXXX clinical overload.
Thank you for providing the requested photos. I have gone through them and noted the sores and ulcers on your stomach.
The first impression is that yes , you might had an allergy reaction due to an insect bite. In such cases, it will take a few days to resolve until several weeks.
However, you are saying that have been going like this for 2years now. At this point, my thoughts are as follows :
- you might be gone through a bacterial coinfection of the sores due to scratching. It is easy for diabetics to get skin infection, which are difficult to resolve.
- another thing that goes into my mind is that you keep scratching. This does not let the skin get healed, finishing in open sores /ulcers. Furthermore, you are a diabetic which will make it difficult the skin sores to heal. On theother hand, you have gone through a spinal surgery that might also have an effect on unhealing sores.
- you said you had a skin biopsy that found nothing (correct me if I am wrong ); if it is possible can send a copy of biopsy report to me.
At this point, I can give the following advice :
1. Keep a good control of your blood sugar levels
2. We will try to get the sores healed.
If it's itchy, try not to scratch.
Instead, apply antihistaminic or anti itching medications locally.
If bacterial infection is present, apply local antibiotic wipes. Oral antibiotics should be taken too.
I have used applying honey on the wounds of my diabetic patients with great results. You can try it too.
Aloe vera juice applied locally can also help in healing process.
You can discuss my advice with your dermatologist or physician and hope that will help you.
All the best!
