Question: Hello doctor, I have twin daughters and they are 2 years and 2 months old. From the day they were born it was so hectic for me and they both started walking in 8 months. They are very curious and don't stay in one place. As I was so tired and I totally forgot the speech milestone.i thought they will start talking on their own. But few weeks before I realized because I didn't teach them anything they couldn't understand our language. I was treating them as baby till now and I realized what I did wrong. As they used to be on their own they are not listening If I talk now. Iam so confused whether this is because of me or are they having any problem. Is there any test to be done to make sure they are fine ? And how do we make them to sit and learn ? Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Test hearing. Start talking to them constantly

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description it looks like your twins have been otherwise normal in their other milestones.
I think your babies should start talking on their own soon.
However it is better to test for hearing if not tested already. Though chances of any abnormality is very slim it is better to rule out.

To make them listen and learn you need to talk to them constantly.
Keep talking and telling them stories and rhymes.
You should try to avoid gadgets and TV exposure.
Always keep books and toys to help in learning.
Putting them in play school will help more
Wishing both your babies good health.

Dr Arun

They dont mingle with anyone. They are playing on their own. They dont have eye to eye contact. When i google it shows autism. We are confused whether they didnt know because we didnt teach anything or they have any brain related issue that they couldnt understand language. Is there any test to check they dont have brain related issue or how do we diagonise their problem. We are so confused. Please help us.

Brief Answer:
get them checked with a pediatric neurologist

Detailed Answer:
It could be either of the two
- less teaching and stimulation
- Neurological reasons autism included.
A hearing test and a clinical evaluatin by a pediatric neurologist should help in identifying.
Clinical scoring will rule out autism.
