Question : I have spider vein clusters around both ankles and they started hurting in the last couple of days. Should I see a doctor immediately and do they do laser surgery to remove the veins?

Hello Madam,
These spider veins must have been there for a while now.
Spider veins are the earliest stages of Varicose veins and mostly they do not proceed to become Varicose. No treatment is usually required for these veins and pain is usually not a symptom in these veins. They almost always dont lead to any problems. If there is pain it could be due to something else.
I suggest you see your GP but there is no emergency. Let him evaluate the cause of your pain. Rest assured its not due to spider veins. Laser therapy is usually not done for these. What we Vascular Surgeons do for them is usually foam sclerotherapy if patients find them to be cosmetically unsightly and in some severe cases surgery in the form of minute small stab incisions to remove them.
Therefore, do not worry and see your GP who would then advice you to see a Vascular surgeon if need be.
