Suggest Treatment For Stomach Ache, Motion Sickness And Constipation

Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: My son has been complaining of a stomach ache off and on for several days. Feels like motion sickness but not triggered by motion alone. We initially thought it was constipation and have been giving him stool softener but he has pooped a lot and it still comes on and off. He has little appetite when It is bothering him but fine when not. Also complains of funny feeling in his mouth that won't go away with food or water. We have an appointment with out pediatrician tomorrow but I am concerned now that I know it's not constipation and wondering if I need to take him to see someone sooner. All above symptoms are unusual for him.

Brief Answer:
Stomach Ache

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
You already ruled out the most common diagnosis, constipation. Even so, we need to make sure he has a soft bowel movement everyday.
The next most common diagnosis, and one that should be considered here, is reflux. Reflux would explain why his appetite is decreased during episodes and why he has the strange taste in his mouth. It is easily treated, and the children do very well.
This can wait until you see your pediatrician. There is no need to go to an ER or urgent care center.
