Suggest Treatment For Stomach Infection In An Infant

Question: My daughter, age 6 months was intitally diagnosed with a stomach infection (Pseudomonas Aeruginosa) and was given antibiotic bacigyl ( for 7 days, 3 times a day-1.5 ml), Enterogerimina and Neutrolin B. She was fine for 3 days post the course, then again loose motion with green frothy stool with slight blood clots. The doctor then changed the antibiotic to diof (2.5 ml , twice a day for 7 days), Enterogerimina and Neutrolin B. She was fine for 3 days post course again, after which she had yellow, frothy stool, which by then end of the day turned to greenish with some blood. This time we consulted a new doctor, and he advised to do a stool routine + Reducing substrate test, also gave Walamycin antibiotic (5 ml, 3 times a day, 4 days) and made a diet plan including Nestum rice, Curd, Rice water, Banana, Apple and stop breast milk, she also hed readness around her anus. The revised report had positive for reducing sugar with acidic stool and infection still remains. Now her loose motions have stopped, but she still has greenish stool not forthy. He also has given ZN 20 ( 2ml, once a day for 15 days) and Bifilal ( 2.5 ml, 2 times a day for 6 days). But he issue is she is not taking readily eating the proposed diet, and remains cranky and we are forced to give her breast milk... Is it ok to continue giving breast milk, because as per the doctor the redness around her anus will only heal if breast milk is stopped.
Brief Answer:
Try lactose free formula
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
From your history it seems the major problem is lactose intolerance, since the stool for reducing substance is positive. My advice is as follows:
-Stop breast feeding temporarily. May keep pumping the breast so that the milk letdown does not stop.
-I usually advice my patients lactose free soy based formula like isomil. This will get digested and will avoid redness. It's better to continue this lactose free milk for atleast for 4 weeks prepared in cleanest drinking water.
-Also apply emollients like happynap to help the redness heal .
- Continue zn 20 and bifilac.
Wishing your daughter speedy recovery.
