Suggest Treatment For Stomach Pain And Mouth Ulcers

Posted on Mon, 9 Nov 2015
Question: Hello Doctor,

Good Afternoon. I would like to get your opinion about my son's (7 years) health. He complaints of tummy pain from time to time and also develops mouth ulcers (not very frequently though). We have observed that he complains of stomach ache after he has had some food or drink - it isn't perpetual nor does he complain every day but he has been having this problem for almost 3 months or so. Please let me know what I should be doing to make sure there isn't anything to worry about.

Brief Answer:
Give him deworming tablets

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I completely understand your concerns but don't worry. Your son is suffering from recurrent abdominal pains. These complaints are most likely due to worm infestation of gut or gastritis which are common in this age group.

So, I would recommend you to give him a dose of Tablet Albendazole (400mg) on day 1 and day 14 ( only twice). This will clear up the common worms responsible for such recurrent stomach pain. Also, start him emperically on Tab. Lanzol junior (15mg) once daily before breakfast for a week. This will help in associated gastritis.

Sometimes the pains can also be due to chronic constipation in kids. Plenty of fluids and fibre rich diet is helpful in such cases.

In case the problem persists or there is associated bowel or bladder disturbances, fever, weight loss, vomiting and anorexia then visit a pediatrician for complete clinical examination and definitive treatment.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care

Thanks a lot Doctor for your quick response. Is there a syrup form of the medicines suggested by you ?. My son hasn't taken tablets so far, so I am not sure if he will be able to swallow.

Brief Answer:
You may give Syp. Albendazole

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Don't worry. You may give Syp. Albendazole (10 ml) on day 1 and day 14 instead of tablet. Also, Tablet. Lanzol Junior which I suggested can be easily dissolved in juice or water and given easily.

Hopefully this will be useful.
Take care
