Suggest Treatment For Strained Medial Meniscus

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: I have a strained medial meniscus that still hurts when I sit for over 20 minutes or slightly twist my knee joint when I walk. What remedies do you recommend?
Email address: YYYY@YYYY

You asked for my XXXXXXX phone number: 000-000-0000 but now I prefer using my landline or home phone number instead: 000-000-0000. The email your sent me mentioned I can call you with more questions on my XXXXXXX phone; i.e., my iPhone, Android, etc. and I don't have such a phone. And that's the reason I prefer giving you my landline/home phone number instead. Also I don't know how to access text messages on my XXXXXXX or cell phone so I prefer using my landline/home phone.

So I'm asking if I can edit my phone number contact information. The email you sent that had my password you sent me mysteriously got lost in cyberspace while I was operating my email server. Please resend the email with the password you assigned me again. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You might need MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I have studied your case. I think you have grade 2 or 3 Meniscus tear. These tear increased when you sit cross leg or use stairs.I have following suggestions for you.
1. Hot fomentation is better then cold.
2.Tablet Brufen should be taken 400 mg twice daily.
3. Steroid injection can be helpful. Volini gel local application can be given. Avoid sqautting, cross leg sitting and stairs.
Meniscus tear may not be responding to conservative treatment like physiotherapy and rest need suegery. I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks

My comments/questions about your beginning 3 sentences:
If I have grade 2 or 3 Meniscus tear at what grade do I for sure need an MRI and what grade is considered the worst tear? I will be transporting about 3 or 4 loads of all different size artwork and displaying them at a one day art show and sale starting this Friday May 27 and ending Saturday May 28. I will not need to climb stairs. In your opinion if I follow all your instructions to reduce the Meniscus tear pain and I am very careful not to hurt myself; do you think I can attempt to display about 35 pieces of artwork on 5 large easels standing on the floor and smaller easels to hold-up smaller framed artwork on a large table plus other smaller artworks?
1. I can wrap a hot electric heating pad enclosed in it's cloth cover with a wet thin sponge to provide wet heat. Is that what you mean by hot fomentation?
2. Is Tablet Brufen the same as Ibuprofen Tablets USP, 200 mg.? I have almost 300 of 500 of these tablets left with an expiration date of May, 2013; do you think they are still safe to use?
3. My HMO provider is Kaiser Permanente; can I get steroid injection and Volini gel local application from them? Yes I will avoid squatting, cross leg sitting and stairs.
I think your right that I need surgery so I will schedule an MRI ASAP. I had a Meniscus tear surgery on the other knee many years ago. And my guess is this current tear is very similar.
Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Grade 3 tear needs surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for replying.
1.Grade 3 tear needs surgery. And grade can be confirmed by MRI only. Also if their is locking in knee joint then it is surely grade 3 tear.
2.Do not take expired Brufen. They can be harmful for you. Buy fresh one. They are not very costly also.
3.Hot fomentation can be done by any warm water either you put directly from a mug or it can be done through moist towel. Heating pad can also be used.
4.volini gel can be given by HMO but injection can be given by trained doctor in operation theatre only.
thanks
