Brief Answer:
It can be due to depression/anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I read your query and can understand the distress that you seem to be having as a result of your symptoms.

You have mentioned that you have been under a lot of stress over past three years. Stress in itself can cause a lot of physical symptoms. Feeling clammy can be a manifestation of anxiety.

I would have liked to know about other symptoms that you might be having:

- Are you feeling low or sad most of the time?

- Do you often feel restless and anxious?

- Any sleep and appetite disturbances?

- Any symptoms of palpitations, sweating, etc?

- Feeling of lethargy/ getting tired easily.

If you are having any of the above symptoms in addition, you might be having depressive or anxiety disorder.

I would suggest you seek a psychiatric consultation for detailed evaluation and initiating treatment. You might feel better with anti-depressants like escitalopram or sertraline.

In addition, it would be helpful if you are able to let go whatever is making you preoccupied. One way is to discuss and open up regarding it with some one close. You can also consider the option of psychotherapy sessions to help you in the same. I would be glad to help if you decide to open up and share your problems with me.

Hope I was able to answer your query. In case you have any follow up query, please feel free to ask. Wishing you good health,

Regards,

Dr. Sunil Gupta

answer to your inquires : sad, yes. restless, anxious, sometimes. sleep, 4 or 5 hrs. per night. no palpatations or sweats. lethargy, yes. I saw a psychiatrist when my problem started and she said I was handling the situation correctly. I went for 3 sessions and felt good. Since then, I thought things were going well but now I have been knocked down again by same family member. It hurts seeing everything I had done for her and her children. I'm trying to fight this myself as I'm not a pill person. Wish I could explain everything to you but it would be like writing a book. Thank-you for your help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for following up. From what you have mentioned, it definitely seems that you are under a lot of stress and the symptoms are clearly a manifestation of the same. It is tough when you feel let down by the same person again and again. And it seems despite everything you have been managing quite well on your own.

Its good that you have already consulted a psychiatrist. However, it seems that it has been quite some time since then. And since your symptoms and distress have increased, its time you reconsider visiting him again, either for sessions or starting medications. I can understand that you don't like medications. But I do hope you keep your options open regarding it.

Regarding your writing the book of your life, trust me I would like to hear it all, more so if you think you would feel better by sharing it with me. You don't have to worry about how long or short it is. In case you feel like doing it, just go ahead and do it. I will be glad to offer my suggestions if desired by you.

Hope that you are able to get over this phase as soon as possible. In case of any follow up query, please feel free to ask. In case you decide to close the discussion, please rate the answer.

Best wishes,

Dr. Sunil Gupta
