Question: My 1 yr old has been having very strong metallic smelling urine. I've took him to the dr but his pee test came back perfect. What could this be?
He hasn't been on an antibiotic or eaten anything different and his pee test showed that he was well hydrated and has no uti.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to the food ingredients he might have been fed

Detailed Answer:
Hi.. I understand your concern. I just want to reassure you that it is not a serious problem. Most commonly the smell and color of urine is because of the food ingredients the kid might have consumed.

usually if there is more protein content in the food consumed then the metallic smell might be more.

If the kid is active otherwise, growing well and developmentally attaining all the mile stones age appropriately then there is no need to worry.

But if the kid is failing to thrive and is developmentally retarded then we must consider some inborn errors of metabolism which can alter the color and smell of urine.

But as a pediatrician has already seen your kid and evaluated him, you need not worry about developmental or growth problems as it would have been picked up by him.
