Suggest Treatment For Stuck Food Piece Inside Wind Pipe
Question: I small piece of food is caught at top of wind pipe. Can not seem to cough it out. Happened about 12 hours ago. Breathing is ok by item is irritating and triggers occasional cough. Should I see a doctor? What can I do at home? It is vegetable matter (cabbage piece) will it dissolve?

I appreciate your concern
Based on your description, I doubt whether its stuck at the top of the wind pipe as then it would certainly interfere with normal breathing and would lead to recurrent irritant cough. Oral cavity, pharynx and if required laryngeal examination is required before any treatment is devised. A plain x ray can be advised to locate any foreign body before removal is done. Avoid drinking or eating anything for the time being. Even though there is a possibility of spontaneous resolution with time, I would advise you to go to an E.R near you for proper evaluation and removal of the piece of food, to be on the safe side.
