Question : Hi my daughter came to me yesterday complaining of right sharp abdominal pain. She said it feels like a blockage. It was before her period by a day and the worst pain she ever felt. She has no back pain and no temp. Other than what I described no other symptoms. She has no bloating. She is on a low carb diet for 3 weeks now. She follows diet to a T and has lost weight. My daughter is 30 years, and has had a lot of stress in her life lately. Could this possibly be an ovarian cyst? Also her periods are very heavy and very dark at beginning of this one.

Brief Answer:
Which area - upper/mid or lower?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/30 - right sharp abdominal pain - took Ibuprofen - feels like blockage - a day before period - periods heavy and dark at the beginning of this one - no other symptoms - low carb diet 3 weeks - follows diet to a T and lost weight - lots of stress - wants to know whether this be Ov cyst...

Please give some additional information:
- Where exactly is the pain? Upper/middle or lower of right side?
- No bowel or bladder symptoms too?
- How is the pain at the moment?
- Has the onset of bleeding stopped or reduced the pain?
- Is this for the first time or has been present before every periods?

I think an urgent Ultrasonography of the Whole Abdomen is warranted just to be on the safe side as the pain was so severe.

Take her to the ER and get an actual clinical examination and investigations as required to rule out anything like appendicitis, stone in the right ureter, Ovarian cyst (twisted cyst can cause severe pain) as you said and so on.

I hope this answer helps your daughter.

Feedback is most welcome.
Regards
