Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Bluish Discoloration On The Nails

Posted on Mon, 24 Apr 2017
Question: Yesterday I gave myself a pedicure and apparently irritated the skin around my nail on my second to last toe on my left foot. It is swollen and today it has a bluish mark spreading to the lower area around the toe. It still hurts but not as Minh as yesterday. I should mention that when I applied nail polish it started to burn. Any answers?

Brief Answer:
Some practical advises.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

The toes of the foot do not get infected so often.
So it is good that you are cleaning the affected area with peroxide and applying local antibiotic. But I don't expect the need of much more intervention.

I would say instead of peroxide it is better to soak the toes/foot in warm water with some jodine drops and apply the cream after. Avoid putting a bandaid on it if possible so it will heal faster. The Peroxide would kill the normal cells, except the infection there, so that is why it is better to avoid.
Avoid the nail polish until it heals.

If it starts getting worse, pulsating, producing pus...that is the time to see a local doctor because you may need oral antibiotics.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.
