Question : I have a swollen and bruised ancle due to a fall. It happened Saturday and doesn't hurt to walk on. Should I use compression, or just ice and elevation?
Brief Answer:
Compression also to be applied
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HealthcareMagic.
It is advisable to put compression to the area if there is no pain since it will stabilize ligaments and tendons and prevent further injury and speed up the healing process.
Also, ice and nonsteroid painkillers(eg. Tylenol) should be continued. The leg should be elevated as much as possible if swelling persists.
These measures should be followed for around 10 days.
Wish you good health.
Regards
