Brief Answer:
Take Anti inflammatory.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
You might have developed knee trauma. But point of concern is that you might have a fracture or a ligament injury.
I would advise following in such situations:
1. To take a pain killer and anti inflammatory like Diclofenac 50 mg twice a day.
2. To apply Volini gel locally over the affected area.
3. To do hot fomentation three times a day locally.
4. To give complete rest to that joint.
5. Avoid to squat, walk. Use a stick if you need to walk urgently.
Try these for 5 days. If the pain persists, swelling increases , you would require an MRI of the knee to rule out possible fracture and ligament tear.
However at initial stage, the treatment would remain the same.
If you have any further query please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
What is the reason you can't take it?
Swelling would get better on it only.
Other inferior options are Tramadol , Katadol, Paracetamol.
They will help you in pain relief.
If no contraindications, apply Anti inflammatory get like Volini gel locally.
If you have any further query please ask me.

Dr Varshney I cannot take it because I am on warfarin for blood clots & High blood pressure. I am already taking Tramadol & Paracetamol which haven't helped.

Many thanks

Dear Friend.
In such scenario, we advise local application of Volini gel. It also has anti inflammatory, but it won't harm you.
Infact, you can discuss with your doctor to give you Anti inflammatory in low doses with Pantoprazole. That should not be a problem.
But since you have given an important history here that you are already on blood thinners, so I would like to mention that people who are on blood thinners have high chances if joint bleed following trauma.

I would like to know if the swelling is increasing following trauma?
Any restrictions in movement of joint apart from pain?
When did you got this injury?

I received the injury on Thursday afternoon and the swelling has increased since. I find when moving my knee the pain is so intense and is difficult to move. Also when I touch the skin around my knee in some places It feels numb but still very painful, if that makes sense.

Brief Answer:
Get Investigated.

Detailed Answer:
It would be better to get an MRI of knee done to rule out any bleed there.
Since it has been 5 days, and your swelling and pain are not under control, getting an MRI is an advisable thing.
Also you would require oral NSAIDs (Anti inflammatory) under Pantoprazole cover.
Till then do fomentation and apply Volini gel locally.
Stay Healthy.
