Question : I broke a trip/fall earlier today with my right hand, and now it is hurting, hard to use, swelling, numb, and sore/tender to touch. Is this something I should get looked at or is it likely to be better in the morning? I am also supposed to work as a retail cashier to night.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this fall. The cause of this pain could be from the soft tissues or the bone. If it is from the bone, pain medications and measures to relief acute injury would not be able to control the pains. If these measures can control the pain, then it is most likely not from the bones.

For now, you nee to rest to arm by avoiding using it in typing or doing any other activities like writing. Ideally, it should be immobilized in a splint. apply cold packs, take some tylenol and Ibuprofen as recommended by your pharmacist.

If the pains subside, we would continue to monitor the management. If it doesn't, I will suggest you go in for at least an xray to make sure you had no dislocation or fracture that would warrant a different treatment plan.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using g our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. to it and
