Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In The Clitoris

Posted on Tue, 18 Oct 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,

I have pain in my clitoris. The area of pain can be seen in the picture. It hurts very much just to touch it or when I whipe myself after I urinate. Clitoris is constantly swollen. The clitoris hood is swollen as well. This has been going on for 2 months. All started directly after oral sex with my husband which might have been a little bit careless. There might have been a scratch involved but this I am not sure of. I have already tried ice and NSAID drug without any relief.

What could have happened and how do I get rid of the pain and swelling?

Regards

Detailed Answer:
hello and welcome to HCM. thanks for writing to us with your health query. yes , you are correct , this has happened due to rough oral sex. I will advise you to avoid any kind of sexual activity for 7 days . use cotton panties. Drink lots of water and get a urine routine and culture report. apply Mupriocin ointment twice a day for 7 days. If this does not help then visit a gynaecologist . regards Dr Manisha Jain.

Doctor,

Thank you for the answer.

Could you please help answer the following questions:

-What could be the cause of the pain?
-Why is Mupriocin proposed for treatment, do you suspect an infection?
-Since this has been going on for two months, do you still think it is treatable?

Brief Answer:
can be treated

Detailed Answer:
Yes dear of course it is treatable and it can be a mild but chronic infection.
This is the cause of pain and mupriocin will help the same.
Other precautions as listed will help early recovery and make mupriocin more effective.
So all the best and in case there is no response visit your gynecologist at the earliest

I have problems using mupriocin. Could I use antibiotics instead, like phenoxymethylpenicillin? If yes, how often and how many days?

If antibiotics would not help, what would be the next treatment to try?

Can use it

Detailed Answer:
Yes you can use antibiotics along with other precautions as stated.
In my opinion twice a day for 7 days will suffice.
Try it for at least 3 days and see the response.
Wish you speedy recovery

I was thinking of taking Fluconazole in order to avoid a fungal infection.

1. What day should I take fluconazole, the same day as I start with the antibiotics?

2. How often and for how long should I be taking fluconazole in order to avoid a fungal infection caused by the antibiotics?
