Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In Toes After Injury

Question: Hi so I had a 15kgs dumbell fall on my foot on monday ( 6 days ago) it landed on mostly on my smaller three toes and forefoot. It swelled hugely immediately and I couldn't walk for a few days. I had xrays that evening while it was still swollen... and three days later after I had a check up with my gp... I had not been using my foot and been only XXXXXXX with crutches and he said it looked fine but was still very swollen.

Today was the first time I've worn shoes and not used crutches once today and suddenly I have more pain than I've had the last two days and it's suddenly become more bruised.. I'm wondering if the swelling could have hidden any hairline fractures or more serious injuries in the original xrays and then I should get more xrays?

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
X rays are accurate despite of swelling, just more rest/healing time needed

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

the swelling can not hide any hairline fractures, since x ray goes through any swelling (physically). You most likely have worn shoes and put away the crutches too early. This can take several weeks to recover step by step, please continue Painkillers and anti-imflamatories Ice, rest and elevation Walking assisted on crutches until swelling improves furthermore. Also: even if you had a hairline fracture, the therapy would mostly not be any different, thats why another x ray is not necessary. If there is any doubt ab MRI can be discussed, but at this point that would usually be too early for that.

Best regards
