Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pan In The Rib Cage

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Dec 2014
Question: Fell 10 days ago across shower threshold. Since then I have had pronounced swelling and sharp pain on the upper left side under the rib cage. I also have atrial fibs and am in treatment for that. Take Warfarin for that as well. Immediately I fell I experience low blood pressure and high pulse rate 97/55 and 105 pulse rate. Fainted twice. Went to cardiologist and wore halter monitor for 24 hours--said pulse rate was 104 average. Concerned that I may have injured my spleen. As continued left sided pain increased yesterday after getting markedly better in the days before.

Brief Answer:
Spleen injury not likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
An injury to spleen is less likely to show after 10 days of fall. The pain that you are having on the left side is likely to be due to a soft tissue injury. Any internal bleeding is not likely to persist for 10 days with no symptoms.
An ultrasound scan of the abdomen will help in confirming these findings. In case there is no injury detected on ultrasound then taking rest and muscle relaxants will help in decreasing the pain.
I hope this answers your query.
