Question: Hi, my right foot, ankle and calf is swollen and the foot is very red. The furosemide prescription from the Dr. has not helped. My left leg is not swollen now but is red and covered with water blisters and skin is rough. I also suffer from plaque psoriasis. Male, age 78. What can be causing these conditions?

Brief Answer:
Please upload an image

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition which means that your body is acting against itself in causing such lesions. However, I would really appreciate if you could upload an image of the affected area. It will help me to guide you further.

I will await your inputs.

My follow-up question is: Does the Swelling in my leg have anything to do with Psoriasis?
What kind of test would you suggest to find what is causing the swelling?
Also, are you saying that the blistering is caused by the psoriasis?
I will attempt to upload a picture tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
The blistering is possibly related to the psoriasis.

Detailed Answer:
The swelling may or may not be related to the psoriasis but the blistering is possibly related. You need to get your blood pressure checked since raised blood pressure could lead to swelling of feet.

I would be able to comment further after checking the image.

Dr. thanks for your attention. I have checked my blood pressure and it is no higher than usual. Today blood pressure was 145 over 72 with heart rate 68. I uploaded several pictures for you to check. Blood oxygen measures 94.
I also have COPD.
Please give me your opinion on what test or mediation I should try to elevate these problems. Especially the swelling in the one leg.

Brief Answer:
Your hypertension seems to be the cause

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the updates and for uploading the images. I have checked them. The swelling does not seem to be associated with psoriasis. Rather it seems to be due to the raised blood pressure. You need to see a doctor and get regular medications for the same. Medicines like beta blockers and diuretics would be useful. Your blood sugar level and creatinine level need to be tested.

Regarding your psoriasis, it needs to be treated as well and you need to visit a dermatologist for the same. The following categories of medicines might help:

* Steroid - Modifies or simulates hormone effects, often to reduce inflammation or for tissue growth and repair.
* Vitamin A derivative - Unplugs blocked hair follicles and helps prevent new blockages from forming. Slows skin cell growth.
* Anti-Inflammatory - Prevents or counteracts swelling (inflammation) in joints and tissues.
* Immunosuppressive drug -Reduces immune response.
* Other Vitamins - Help promote normal body function, growth, and development.

Dr. Prof. XXXXXXX SaHa, I have read information online from other sources that say how harmful blood pressure drugs are. I am taking some that say they are the worst, Lisinopril is one of them, and I am taking one or two others that are listed as most harmful. I have been reading also that your body regulates itself and I want to stop using so many. I have them listed in my prior information on meds that I take. Please advise. I am using Super Beets and was able to drop one of the beta blockers that I was taking with the Cardiologist approval. I was taking 2 different ones at the time (prescription beta blockers).
What do you think Doc.?

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

It is good that you expressed your apprehension freely. However, let me assure you that although most medicines have side effects, they are observed only in a handful few, say one in 10,000 or may be one in a still higher number of patients taking the medicine. It is very important to keep the blood pressure in control and regular intake of medicines and remaining under periodic follow up is very important. You should only change or modify your medication under the guidance of the physician who is regularly seeing you. Else, things might rather worsen. Your medicines are among very widely used ones and you need not worry.
