Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: What would cause a swollen scrotum. I am 72 years and am taking 20 mg of visibility per day. I also drink about 5-6 beers per day. I have no problem with urinating and have a steady stream. I also am not experiencing any pain in my scrotum area.

Brief Answer:
Few causes to consider

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

There are few possible causes including scrotal hernia, epididymitis, Hydrocele or torsion.

If there is no pain or redness then torsion and epididymitis can be ruled out. So this is probably hydrocele or varicocele which is a benign condition and if there are no symptoms, it should not be treated.

However, it would be good to get a scrotal ultrasound scan done to see what kind of disorder is it so that further management can be planned accordingly.

Feel free to ask further.
Wish you good health.
Regards

Brief Answer:
follow-up consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

You probably mean Hydrocele and Varicocele. This means that there is fluids accumulation in scrotum due to enlarged veins. In some cases, it pulls back spontaneously but sometimes surgical repair is required which is a routine procedure. For confirmation of the exact diagnosis, you need to get yourself examined and investigated by a specialist (Urologist) about this.

Wish you good health. Let me know if I can assist you further.
