default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: I was diagnosed with bacteria vaginosis. I am on day 4 of metogel. My vagina tissue is very iinflamed. Are my vaginal tissues hurting because of the medicine or is the infection still present? Do I have a yeast infection now? How long does it take for vaginal tissue to not feel irritated after finishing this medicine? Are people sensitive to this medicine? I also have lots of discharge coming out from using this medicine and had a little bleeding when applicator was inserted.

Brief Answer:
Looks like the infection is persisting, need to check antibiotic resistance

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thank you for writing in.

I understand your worry.

In my opinion, the bacterial infection seems to be still on going.

This could be because metrogyl may not be the correct choice or it could be because the bacteria have developed resistance to metrogyl.

Next step is to get a high vaginal swab culture and sensitivity (antibiogram) and based on that proper antibiotics can be initiated.

Pain is not usually a common symptom of yeast infection, yeast infection is usually associated with white curdy discharge and itching.

I do think the bacterial infection is still present.

If the antibiotic is appropriate and acts as intended, then you should start to feel better and pain level, discharge, inflammation should start to reduce on the second day itself and by 5 days you should be almost back to feeling fine.

People are usually not sensitive to metrogyl, even if they are sensitive, the symptoms of that sensitivity will be completely different and will be seen all over the body.

In addition to metrogyl application, I would suggest you to apply iodine solution (betadine solution), that will kill most bacteria effectively and help the antibiotic too.

Please talk to your gynecologist and get the culture sensitivity done along with CBC.

I hope you will find this useful.

Warm regards.
