Question : Hi...my son got hit in the face/eye with a baseball last night and it's swollen shut. He has been icing almost constantly but I don't know if there is anything else I should be doing...everyone that sees the picture of him say I need to take him to the doctor. What should I do? Thanks so much.
Brief Answer:
Eye Trauma
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for your question. I am sorry your son experienced this trauma. You are absolutely doing the right thing by icing it. The swelling, even with the applied ice, is expected. The overwhelming majority of cases such as these end up being nothing serious. However, considering the nature of the accident, I recommend an exam by your doctor. This should include testing extraoccular movement, and vision. This would be purely precautionary, but in my opinion necessary.
