Question : 80 year old woman's left leg calf muscle feels swollen or slightly enlarged and noticeably harder than the right leg calf muscle and it does cause pain. Has had this condition for at least several weeks or months. Could it be a sign of a blood clot?
Brief Answer:
It can be only sign of blood clot as half of them is asymptomatic.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,
After going through your query I concluded that leg calf muscle swelling or slightly enlarged and noticeably harder calf muscles than the other leg calf muscle can be only sign of deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) as half of them are asymptomatic. This can be ruled out by ultrasound of veins of calf.
You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.
Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
