default
Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: yes I have a warm sensation going up the back of my left thigh from the knee to the buttocks. I also have a swollen and painful ankle for two weeks now. Had an xray and showed a planters wart. The pain came on suddenly during a trip while walking. Also a day or so after the pain started in my ankle I had calf pain like a sore muscle. That lasted about 3 days and went away. The pain & swelling is somewhat better but still obvious.

Brief Answer:
These pains may be related to overexertion .

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you these pain and swelling may be due to overexertion of trip.Due to trip and overexertion muscles have to work more.Muscles got fatigue and cause pain. The treatment of these pain is rest, analgesic such as diclofenac after meals to relieve pain, icing is soothing.Vitamin B-complex and vitamin C help in recovering.
Swollen ankle are common in trips due to keeping them dependent for relatively more time. For swollen ankle treatment is same i.e.rest and analgesic. But in addition keep foot and ankle elevated on pillow in night. Do mobilization excercises of ankle. Avoid foot to keep the dependent(hanging lower) even while sitting on chair. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

If you are also having backache then there is possibility of sciatica pain.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.

I am not having pain in by back or upper leg. I am having a warm sensation run through the back thigh sometimes every few minutes, sometimes every 15 - 20 minutes. This is a feeling I have never experienced. It has me concerned. I have no idea if it is related to the pain in my ankle/heel but I was concerned about DVT. I did have swelling in both ankles, however the swelling in my right ankle was gone in a couple of days which is what I have experienced after other long flights. I have always been very active and didn't think I was overexerting myself at all. This was a five day trip and last year I walked all over Europe for 10 days.

Brief Answer:
Muscular pains- related to trip .

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

After going through your query and follow up query I think these are muscular pain.I don't think these due to DVT because on back side of thigh to buttocks there is no vein location, from knee to hip these are anterior. However you can rule out it by venogram. As you have no backache so major sciatica is ruled out ,however some stretching of sciatic nerve may give such symptoms but again treatment is rest and analgesic. So I think this is muscular pain related to trip, sometimes even sitting can cause muscle fatigue. Rest of issues already discussed. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
