Posted on Mon, 21 Dec 2015
Question: Hi 3 weeks today I came in after working in garden and when I went to take my shoes off I noticed my left ankle was very swollen. Went to my Dr. and he said it looked like phlebitis but then changed his mind and said it looked as though a blood vessel had burst just to rest for 3 days. After 3 days swelling had gone down so I spent 1hour in garden but ankle swelled up very quickly. To Dr again & this time told vein had burst & to come back in a weeks time.By now a lot of swelling had gone down & bruised blood had gathered in my heel but I am left with swelling above ankle which i'm told is a blood clot. Please help

Hi,Dear, thanks for your query to HCM.
Reviewed your query facts with your health concerns.

Suggestion to help you on the health issues you had are as follows-
a-Get Surgical/ or Vascular Surgeon- Consultant's Second Opinion and get the un-diagnosed / hidden left leg Varicose Vein problem which you have.
b-Rest/Foot Elevation with Lower Bed End elevated by 1 or 2 bricks to suit your comforts and swelling reduction.
c-Veno-stockings for the Supporting to the Incompetent Venus System -Mostly the Short Saphanous Venus System.
d-Get the Color Doppler dual Image Scan done to detect the cause of the burst vein and the clot on your left ankle.
Leg / ankle edema in your case needs detection of Incompetent Perpetrator Veins of the left lower leg
e-Continue with -Tab Motrin x for 5 days / Vit K injection biweekly/ Tab Zincovit x 10 days / Anitibiotics x for 5-7 days time,
-Continue these drugs -under guidance of your Gp doctor, along with the Rest and elevation and Veno-Stockings to reduce the recurrent attacks of bleeing and ankle edema on left ankle.
Alerts-
Evaluation from Surgeon is very important along with supportive treatment to reduce the recurrent venous bleeding attacks.
Rule out the hidden DVT as cause of the Varicose Veins-possibility of which is more due to your old age and gender.

Keep Me updated after the Color Doppler from Radiologist.

Hope this would help you to plan further treatment with your doctors there.

Welcome for any further query in this regard, which I would love to help you out.
