default
Posted on Thu, 22 Dec 2016
Question: hi, i went to doctor last night and he believes it may have been a bug or spider bite. he has given me an injection of penicillin and oral antibiotics. but I am a bit concerned that both feet and ankles have been swollen since last night. I went to bed and slept with them elevated above heart level but they are still swollen. my arm seems to be a bit less swollen and not as sore but am wondering why my feet are swollen and am concerned about my kidneys as I have been diagnosed with SLE in the past.

Brief Answer:
Patience, avoid standing for long, raise legs , no worries, see Dr if persisting

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I think it is too early to be bothered. You might just need to exercise some patience.

Swelling with kidney problems usually not only involves joint of the lower limbs, but also the face. In case the swelling persists or aggravates within a couple of days, you might need to see your doctor to check your kidney function.

It is also true that SLE can lead to chronic kidney disease in the long run. You might need to check your kidney function from time to time. However, you need not be bothered that much in this case.

Be patient, watchful, if persistence or aggravation , see your Doctor, but for now, no real worries. Just try to keep your legs raised and avoid standing for long.

Kind regards as I wish you the best of health. Please, do feel free asking further questions in case of need.

Kind Regards
Dr Bain
