Question : I am a 41 year old female, 4.5 days post-op tonsillectomy. My gums have been very swollen today and I find it difficult to open my mouth. I feel as if some of the scabs may have fallen off as there is now a burning sensation whenever anything but water is consumed.
Up until this point, recovery was surprisingly mild.

Brief Answer:
probably gingivitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

You have most probably developed gingivitis - inflammation of the gums.

Cause for gingivitis is poor oral hygiene.

Due to the pain after the surgery , you have probably not been able to maintain oral hygiene. Also the slough from the operated site is a source of infection in your mouth.

Brush your teeth atleast twice a day and floss everyday.

Use chlorhexidene mouth washe 3 times daily.

Drink plenty of fluids and keep your self well hydrated at all times.

Consult your ENT , you may need a course of antibiotics to cover the infection.

You can take pain killers like Tylenol after confirming your dose.

Feel free to follow up,

Regards,
