Question: My wife's lefthand is swollen. There are no bruises visible. Am trying to keep it elevated & arranging for an expat. She has dementia and lives in an assisted living facility. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Most probably trauma to the hand.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.

I've read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

In dementia, and at that age, a swollen hand can be most probably a trauma. Maybe she has hit somewhere. It is easy to have bones broken in that age.

So, I think its a great idea to do an X-ray.

Meanwhile, give her a pain killer like Tab PARACETAMOL 650 mg two to three times day after food, if her other medical problems allow, and if she has pain.

Keep it elevated as you are doing.

If it is hot or cold, see if it helps her to apply ice or hot (whichever helps is better).

If other symptoms, let me know, because with this much information I am not able to give much advice.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.
