Question : I have a question about my mom. She is 65 years old, diabetic:type 2, morbidly obese, has very little mobility, not eating much at all, swollen legs, occasional hallucinations, and has no loss the ability to control her kidneys and bowels. We took her to the ER on Wed. night and they checked her out, they ran blood work, ekg, cat scan, chest x-rays, and everything looked normal. We have scheduled her an appt. with an internist to see if all the medication she is currently on causing problems. I am wondering what these symptoms could possibly be caused by?

Brief Answer:
Diabetes seems to be the culprit

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. There are a few issues here.
* Diabetes seems to be the main offending agent. It affects multiple organs and complicates the situation. The swollen legs, not feeding well, loss of ability to control urine and stool are direct or indirect consequences of damage related to diabetes.
* The occasional hallucinations need further evaluation. I would not insist on ignoring it. A psychiatrist needs to be seen and further evaluation done. Some medicines can have a role to play.

I would ask you about the Blood HbA1c levels. Could you please let me know the value? I can guide you accordingly.

Regards
