Question: I'm 30 years old with chronic edema. Both my legs are swollen. Can you tell me what's the reason this happens. And how do I treat it?

Brief Answer:
Get investigated and be under Physician's care

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX Parameswaran XXXXXXX The Endocrinologist to give you a very apt reasoning, I do agree with it.

As I have seen your photographs and discussion with Dr XXXXXXX I would like to ask you only a few more questions and give you only a few solutions.

You say this is chronic- Since how long you have this edema? Few days/ weeks / months?
Upto which level edema is there? Is it just ankles and foot or below knee ot the whole legs?
Do you have edema over face or other parts of the body ?
You mean to say - you want to treat it yourself?

Since the photographs are showing the toes are also affected the lymphatic swelling is not possible.
IF this is of a short duration , the first thing to do is to consult a Physician, Get all your relevant investigations and most importantly the ultrasonography and color doppler examination of both lower limbs and abdomen.

In the meantime, Elevate the legs above the hear level in lying down position.
As this is a serious disorder, you need to consult or take a second opinion, get diagnosed and get properly treated.

Brief Answer:
color doppler and Ortho opinion if needed.

Detailed Answer:
Get the Color doppler examination for the incompetent valves of the veins, the leaking valves can be the most common reason.
If the color doppler examination is normal also take an opinion of an Orthopedic surgeon to rule out ankle joint problems.
