Question: 30 month old daughter with non swollen but palpable lymph nodes on left side of neck. Two nodes appear to be moving as one... Matted? Been palable since 9/2014 so about 9 months. No other signs of illness or issues. Nodes are soft and moveable. Should we be concerned about cancer?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXX

It's unlikely to be cancer at this age , as the lymph node have been present for more than 9 months without much change in size ,it's unlikely to be cancer. At this age the mist common cause is non specific enlargement pf lymph node.
In my clinical practice I treat the children with 7 days course of antibiotics, if the lymph node still persist in follow up them excision biopsy is recommended.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.

It is not over 1cm so would an antibiotic really be necessary? Should an ultrasound be requested? Can nodes be matted yet still be not swollen?

Brief Answer:
ULTRASOUND WILL NOT BE HELPFUL

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Node size of less than 1 cm is not very significant. Many children who have long neck could have small tiny lymph nodes palpable without any obvious cause. Trial of antibiotics is worth considering.
Ultrasound scan will not be helpful as definitive diagnosis is not possible
