Question : I have a swollen lymph node in my groin, only on the left and its been there for about 3 weeks. It felt tender when the doctor poked it. The swelling comes and goes, it swells to about the size of a grape and feels firm, but will go down again, often in the same day (gets smaller, but doesn't disappear completely). I don't feel sick, maybe a bit tired and I feel a mild pain in my groin. I haven't had sex in a few years, so I don't know if it could be caused by an STD. What kind of infection causes a lymph node to swell in the groin?

Brief Answer:
Any infection in the leg can cause this.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Lymphatics from the lower limb drain into Inguinal/groin lymphnodes. So,any injury which leads to minor/major bacterial infection leads to enlarged inguinal lymphnode.
When the lymphnode is enlarged, you should consult your doctor and get an FNAC(Fine needle aspiration cytology). It will give a clue.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Cefuroxine 500mg twice daily,Anti inflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints.
Nothing yo worry.
Hope i answered your query. If you have any questions, i will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

There doesn't seem like there is anything wrong with my leg. Could there be something wrong with it that I can't feel? Do UTIs, yeast infections or hemorrhoids ever cause the swelling of lymph nodes in the groin?

Brief Answer:
It is connected to other organs too.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Apart from lower limb, abdominal wall below bellybutton, perineum, buttock, anal canal, vulva etc drain into groin lynphnodes.Infection from these areas can spread to inguinal nodes.
Simple FNAC of the lymphnode will give a clue.
Hope i answered your query.
