Posted on Tue, 7 Apr 2015
Question: hello I have had swollen lymph nodes for about 3 months. I also have had no symptoms and have been back and forth to the doctor many times. They have given me many different medications including anti inflammation and antibiotics. Now all of the sudden my tail bone is starting to hurt and I am developing a sore throat. is there any indication of what this may be?I have had blood tests and showed no signs of infection and I am starting to worry.

Brief Answer:
Please let me know some details & get FNAC done to be sure

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. What is your age?
2. Where and how many lymph nodes are enlarged?
3. Is the XRay Chest clear?
4. How much is your ESR?
Your tail bone pain and sore throat might or might not be related to the lymph nodes. That would be very difficult to say without being able to examine you. I can only advice that if you are very stressed out about the nodes then you could get an FNAC done from one of the nodes. It is Fine needle aspiration cytology in which the lab technician will insert a small needle into the node and aspirate material from inside which will be studied under a microscope to see what cells are present and a report would be given. This will give insight as to what id present in your swollen nodes.
So please tell me the details I have asked so I can better understand your problem and if required then undergo an FNAC with help of your Doctor.
Take care,

I am 27 years old. I have about two enlarged lymph nodes on the left side of my neck and I think there is 3 or 4 on the right. I haven't had a chest xray yet so I think I will request one next time I go in.

Brief Answer:
Get XRay, ESR & CBC done.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks XXXXXXX
I do not think you need to worry about anything.
Please get your XRay, ESR and CBC done and let us know the reports. This will tell us whether there are any lung problems or any chronic inflammation going on. You do not need an FNAC presently but you could get it done if you are stressed out about your node problem.
Do let us know the above reports for me to comment further about your course of management.
Take care,

Ok I'll be sure to do that. One more thing, what kind of doctor would you recommend I go see? I was told to see internal medicine.

Brief Answer:
Yes that is correct.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
That is absolutely correct.
You need to see a Physician or Internal Medicine Specialist. If they home on to something then you might require an ENT or Respiratory Review. But nothing else for now except internal medicine.
All the best and no need to worry at all.
Take good care of yourself.
