Question: Hi , My Grandma is having BP of 80/170 . For the past three she took amlong-a at morning and took Loser H at night , but during her recent visit to doctor for severe leg pain and swollen legs, he advised to stop Amlong-A and asked her to take Loser h in morn and night along with he has given caloptine (for heartbeat ) for 3 times a day , but now she is experiencing nerve pain in leg (foot) twice or thrice a day and also she is feeling like sometime stomach got bulged. Please do share the usage of these tablets. I am very much worried about this. Because I love my grandma very much.
Thanks in advance

Hello

Thanks for the query

Your doctor took the right decision to stop amlong a as 'amlong' causes swelling of the feet as side effect and atenolol (the a part of amolng a) is frequently known to cause claudication pain.
However I would like to know a few more details in order to help you as pain can arise anywhere from skin, muscle, nerve, blood vessel to bone

1. IS she a diabetic as well? Has she recently got tested for it?
2. Is the pain more in the mornings or at night?
3. Does the pain increase while walking or it there through out?
4. What is done usually to relieve the pain
5. Is the pain dull or sharp shooting type
6. Is it single foot or both feet?
7. Please ask her is she is able to feel hot and cold water while showering over the feet?

Please get back to me, I am awaiting your reply

Regards

Thanks for getting back

Here is how you should go about it

1. The swelling is reducing day by day because you have stopped amlong which was causing the swelling
2. The pain what is she is facing is not from the nerves. It is mostly comming from the blood vessels. I suggest you to get doppler of both the lower limbs to rule out atherosclerosis
3. BP is not under adequate control. I advise tab nebivolol 5 mg morning and night, but please do not start it without speaking to your doctor first
4. Change of tablet was a good idea but replacement to amlong a must be initiated

I hope I was of help and there was clarity in my reply. I wish your grand mother a speedy recovery

Thanks for the explanation.
But I am very much worried about Loser h and caloptine. is it good or bad ?
Does Loserh able to control BP and Caloptine thrice a day is allowable to reduce heart beat.
And recently took ECG there it seems to be normal. Even then Doppler is it different from ECG output ??

Brief Answer:
Hello

Detailed Answer:

1. Losar H and Calaptin are wonderful drugs. It is good. There is no drug interaction betwwen them. Calaptin helps reduce the heart rate. Reducing the heart rate helps prevent heart attacks. Do not worry about Losar H and Calaptin, they are good.

2. Doppler and ECG is different. Doppler will look into the veins and arteries of the legs

I hope I was able to clear all your doubts, please feel free to get back if you have anymore
