Suggest Treatment For Swollen Submandibular Node

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: 16 year old R submandibular node enlarged. Discovered it in January. It has been examined by two doctors one of whom is a consultant oral maxillo facial surgeon who have indicated it would be okay to monitor it. It is less than 1cm. I can't think of any obvious infections although he did have dental work but the gland was located before then. He has a few spots on his chin. I am really still worried about it but he has examinations coming up and partly don't want to do much to worry him. Everything I read says that they should be checked out except one article which says it can take a while for nodes to go down and that sometimes they don't go down.

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

If the nodes have persisted for this long then an excisional biopsy should be considered to rule out the possibility of a serious cause such as Tuberculosis or malignancy or a fungal infection.

Treatment would depend upon the cause. Ultrasound of the nodes, FNA can also be considered but excisional lymph node biopsy would be more conclusive.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
