Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Cognitive Dysfunction

Question: My nephew who is 27 years old seems to have a problem. He just CANNOT wake up before 10 or 11 am even if he sleeps early. He misses important appointments and meetings.
Also, he has a problem keeping commitments and has gotten himself deep in debt. He is hard working but seems to screw up some basics like a planned day/week.
Does he need a psychologist or just a good life coach? Most elders in the family have said that he just ignores their advice or just cannot absorb it.

Brief Answer:
Need some details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns for your nephew.
He is sleeping excessively, missing appointments, unable to keep commitments. He has also gotten himself in debts.

Have you noticed any signs of drug abuse in him? Found any drug traces in his room or clothes, smell of drugs from his clothes, physical signs like red eyes, drowsy always?

A young guy with those behavioral issues, it can be because of drug abuse.

Since when he is having these issues?
Any other instances of stealing, lying etc.?
How is his mood for most of the day?

Any consultation from a doctor about these issues in past?

The answers to these questions will help in the better assessment of his condition.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks.

I very much doubt he has drugs issues.

Once he is up and ready for work, he is quite energetic and committed but he has a real problem with getting up. If his appointment is in the morning and even its an important one - you can almost bet he will miss it.

Its as if he cannot come to a full consciousness even though he may plan things at night.

Also, he has over spent on things like cars and gadgets and got himself into debt.

Brief Answer:
Life coach.

Detailed Answer:
The symptoms do not fit into any disorder in my opinion.
I think a good life coach would help him to set his routine.
If the problems persist, a psychologist opinion for behavior activation can be considered.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
