Question: Hi my name is XXXXXXX and I'm having problems with both ears.
My ears are blocked since I have had the flu and I cannot clear them.
I've tried swallowing, using my finger, antibiotics, neti pot, antihistimines, blowing etc.
can you help me as I'm unable to work or study in this condition?

Brief Answer:
OME/SOM.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This seems to be an Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) also known as an XXXXXXX (Serous Otitis Media).

2. Get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) and an I/A (Impedance Audiogram/ Tympanogram) done.

3. Resolution may require up to 4 to 6 weeks. This can be sped up by medication as suggested by your doctor. Add regular steam inhalation and OTC decongestant nasal drops (0.1% Xylometazoline) for a few days.

4. The home remedies will not work as the problem is behind the ear drum.

5. Upload these test results to discuss further treatment options. In some patients a minor surgical procedure to place a ventilation tube (Myringotomy with grommet) may be required.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
