Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Pharyngolaryngitis

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: X-rays, breathing treatments, now on spiriva and symbacort for about a week, as of yesterday rx cough syrup and now on antibiotics.
been coughing for over month, violent, non-productive and feels like something stuccoed on right side of my throat. X-rays yesterday said no pneumonia but more density from previous X-ray last year so will be getting ct scan soon. Sometimes, I get chocked up when I eat though I'm careful to make small bites. Sometimes just sipping water seems a challenge.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be Pharyngo- laryngitis.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having cough. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any change of voice ?

Is your cough associated with breathlessness ?

kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be pharyngo-laryngitis secondary to severe cough.

Severe cough can cause mucosal injury in throat due to stasis of sputum and constant clearing of throat.

Voice box (larynx) is a connection between lung and pharynx, any inflammation of lung involves the larynx, causes change of voice, choking due to slippage of sputum back into voice box.

In my opinion, one month old cough, needs to be evaluated with laryngoscopy, sputum culture and sensitivity and complete blood picture.

Prolonged cough always occurs due to allergy or sinus infections.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon and get detailed ent examination and above investigations. treatment can be started as per findings of investigations.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
