Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Restless Leg Syndrome

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Jan 2017
Question: I have restless leg syndrome. Had a sleep test and kicked my legs 518 times in 7 hours. One doctor has recommended 4mg of Ropinirole HCL once at day at night along with 3 tables of Gabapentin 300mg. I got a second opinion. The second doctor recommended the same dosage of Ropinirole but 1mg of Clonazepam in lieu of Gabapentin. What combination would you recommend I follow?

Brief Answer:
Ropinirole+Gabapentin.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

If your symptoms may be controlled with one drug (Ropinirole for example) you can save the combinations for later.

It is true that prolonged use of Clonazepam may lead to tolerance and addiction. So, in my opinion you should use the first combination (Ropinirole+Gabapentin).

Clonazepam may be used latter after decrease of other drugs effects, or if any of these drugs results in serious side effects.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind Regards.

I am currently using the Ropinirole and Clonazepam combination. Will change the the Ropinirole and Gabapentin combination. Should I slowly reduce the dosage of Clonazepam before I start Gabapentin or go cold turkey and start Gabapentin?

Brief Answer:
Clonazepam should be reduced slowly.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Clonazepam should be stopped slowly instead of cold turkey in order to avoid adverse effects.

For example, you can use 0.5 mg for a week and 0.25 mg for another week then stop it.

Gabapentin may be started during the week.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
