Question : My Eight year old son while laying down for about an hour before bed< got up complaining and scared that his chest on the left side was hurting as if it was being hit with a spiked hammer. his heart seemed to be beating unusually hard and fast

Hi.....could be a night terror, which he might not remember.

It could be unexplained tachycardia also. If he's normal now, you need not panic. But if he's still feeling the same, I suggest you take him to the nearest emergency room and get an ECG done.
