Question : The MRI of my shoulder from yesterday showed a tear in my labrum (?spelling) as well as a tear in one of the ?ligaments (of the 4) in my rotator cuff.

I just started a new job about two weeks, and I truly can't afford to take time off right now to have surgery.

I know that it is difficult for you to see my condition without the images - do you think it might be possible for me to undergo PT and wait for about 6 months for me to have my tears performed surgically.

If I decide on surgery now, I will most definately lose my job.

Please help.

Brief Answer:
when were you injured?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. I would like to know when were you injured?
If it is a fresh tear then it will be better to get operation early. Though repairs can be performed 6 months later, the result cannot be comparable to fresh surgery.
But if it is already old tear then it can be delayed for 6 months without affecting results.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

I broke my wrist the end of October, and I believe that is when I may have started my injuries; however, the end of December, I did slide down a rail of our steps due to an ice storm.

So, I injured my shoulder probably about 3 to 5 months ago.

I think I will wait to have surgery

Do you think PT would be helpful in the mean time?

Thanks,
