Question: Hello!
My Son is 04 years old, he is in Junior KG. From last few months we are getting complaints from his School Bus and School that he is hitting other fellow students. Me and my wife used to punish him and scream at him when he was not doing the right things. We have stopped that practice. But, still the issue is same. He is not liking anyone, if any stranger try to talk to him he always refuse or he would give rough answer to him/her. We are totally confused in the matter. Request you to suggest in the issue please and also a good Doctor for the same. My city is Bhuj (Gujarat) and nearest city is XXXXXXX
Thanx & Regards.

Brief Answer:
This seems like temper tantrums

Detailed Answer:
Hi... I understand you r concern. By what you quote this seems like temper tantrums. I congratulate on what you are already doing like - Rewarding him on his small small success. Asking him to be calm. Giving him the best thing he wants.

Tantrums may happen when kids are tired, hungry, or uncomfortable (even with strangers); or because they can't get something (for example, an object or a parent) to do what they want. Learning to deal with frustration is a skill that children gain over time.

Tantrums are common during the second year of life, a time when language skills are starting to develop. But sometimes it can present later on on learning form their surroundings.

This is what you can do to avoid or prevent tantrums -
1. Give plenty of positive attention
2. Try to give toddlers some control over little things
3. Keep off-limits objects out of sight and out of reach
4. Distract your child
5. Help kids learn new skills and succeed
6. Consider the request carefully when your child wants something
7. Know your child's limits

As to your request - I suggest you see a child psychologist for this. I have gone through the internet in search of the same. 2 names are prominent -

1. Dr Jagdish H Mehta +(91)-2832-253722
2. Dr. XXXXXXX N. Parikh +(91)-2832-254084

Brief Answer:
Videos not to be encouraged

Detailed Answer:
Hi....coming to your queries directly -

1. Videos are not to be encouraged at this age. Best is to read or tell stories from books. Videos may cause hyperactivity.

2. I do not know of any specific books for parenting on this particular issue. I suggest that you can ask for the same at the clinical psychologists that I have suggested.

Regards - Dr. Sumanth
