Posted on Thu, 11 Feb 2016
Question: I'm a 37 y/o male average height, weight, non smoker
2.5 months ago had Right hernia repair ( inguinal)
having pain between incision and penis. Numbness/and aching. Very similar to pain pre surgery.
One area tender to touch, worse when sitting
Hernia repaired without mesh
Wondering why, or if something else could be the cause and the hernia never was the cause of pain
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Most probably a local cause as explained.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.

To recapitulate: Male/37 - inguinal hernia repaired without mesh 2.5 months ago - pain between the incision and the penis persists - numbness/aching - similar to pain pre surgery - one area tender and worse on sitting - thinking of whether there was some cause of pain other than hernia...

Since the area of the pain/numbness is between incision and penis, a very specific area that you have mentioned, this seems to be related to the nerve in the abdominal wall that got stretched due to hernia as is seen in some cases and since the nerves was already instigated to cause pain may be due to stretching or so now remains same.
It is possible that the stretch or the pinching continues or the nerve gets involved into the scar post-operative and the pain continues as is the case most of the times.
Tender to touch and worse on sitting indicate the same probable diagnosis.

If the nerves would have been affected due to some cause at a higher level, the area of affection would have been far larger that you have mentioned.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
