Suggest Treatment For Tenderness In Groin And Hip Area

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Jun 2015
Question: Hi
I have a hard string like tender something in my groin area that starts at the end of the pubic region and goes to toward my hip which seems to also be a bit tender. I guess my biggest concern is that it is lymph node issue. It is very close to the surface and tender. I wouldn't think it was a blood clot since there is no color change on the skin and again it is very close to the surface. I suppose it could be a hernia but I have not done anything in the last month to cause this although 2-3 months ago I did pull something in this area but no symptoms showed. I think it is odd that all of a sudden since last week (and I have not been exercising) this string like bump has shown itself and is sensitive to the touch and I can feel some minor pain all the way to the hip.

Brief Answer:
Inguinal hernia seems most probable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Is this lump visible? If so, can you please attach a photo of it?

From your description, lymph node is the last possibility. And inguinal hernia seems to be the most probable reason.
Typical for hernia is groin lump. Such lump usually gets more visible when standing and coughing and less visible when lying down. Please perform a simple test. Put your hand in the lump area and press it gently. Now while standing try to cough couple of times. If this is a hernia, you should be able to palpate lump which is protruding during coughing.
Hernia does not have to appear after physical activity. Sometimes it remains hidden until it unexpectedly appears.

If you have been shaving recently this area, bump caused by ingrown hair should be considered. But this usually gives reddish and swollen bump.

The best way to fins out what it is, is a groin ultrasound.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Its is not a hernia. I went to a doctor and he said he was 90% convinced is was a blood clot. I attached a video of this I take it you did not get this? Any way my concern is that he did not say why I go this or am I prone to more of these and what tests can be done. Also he basically said nothing can be done and it is not dangerous to break off and do damage.
Can you concur?

Brief Answer:
Blood clot in this area is a supprising thing.

Detailed Answer:
I did not get any video. But if you attach at least a photo of it, it would be much easier to give any good answer.
Blood clot seems hardly probable. Unfortunately your doctor has great advantage, he is able to palpate it and see it. I am not.
Blood clot in this area sounds strange. Especially fi there was no injury or you did not have any injection recently. Moreover, blood clot makes skin above it at least darker (if not purple). Blood clot also appears in the vein area. Have not seen any vein present in the groin area.

How about an ultrasound, was it done? If not, you can not be sure its a blood clot.

This are my thoughts about this diagnosis.

It wont let me upload a movie which is the only way you can see how it moves when I press on it, it will not show in a picture. thats sort of lame. Thank you for you help. I may do an ultrasound but he didn't recommend it and I dont want to spend the money.

Brief Answer:
Just wait and see what will happen.

Detailed Answer:
So the best you can do right now is to wait. Either hernia or blood clot (if is not located in the deep vein) are both not serious and can be left alone for some time.
If its really a blood clot should get constantly smaller. If its hernia, it wont go away by its own.
