Question: Hi Doctor!

For the past month i've been having pain in my thighs and it just started in my upper arms and shoulder. I've been to a good physical therapist and he said that it's not anything musculoskeletal. He seemed to think it could be limes disease or something auto immune. I'm planning to call my doctor first thing in the morning but would love to hear your thoughts. I am a 49-year-old female who exercises 3 to 4 times a week and has a very healthy vegetarian diet. I have not recently been put on any new medications. I have been under incredible stress over the last few months . Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you !

Brief Answer:
This will need evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that , thigh pain can be due to muscle weakness or metabolic deficiencies also . First think I would advise is to get muscle enzyme CPK done to look for muscle involvement . Then a metabolic profile including Vitamin D , Vitamin B12 and thyroid status . Also get ESR done to see and rule out PMR . Regarding autoimmune disease you can get ANA done to rule out Lupus .
Any queries please feel free to ask .

Take care.

Thank you so much for your reply, it is greatly appreciated! I should have mentioned that I had a physical about a month ago and I am a little low in vitamin D. My blood test also showed that my thyroid was normal. Does that change your answer at all?

Dear Madam,

Then this could be due to vitamin D deficiency , I would advise to take vitamin D supplementation along with calcium supplements as advised by your treating doctor . Rest get yourself evaluated as discussed prior .
