                                            Question : Dear Madame, Sir,
I have a 5 years old boy with tyreogloss cyst discovered last year in january. I followed a naturist treatment for less then 3 months and even so seemed to have good results, by XXXXXXX it was infected and had a draining surergical method. Few days ago it started to get red and bigger and now is under antibiotics with slow good results. Im wondering what should i do best for my kid do to the fact that this is with recidivism (big rate) in case of surergical intervention?! Is this the only way to help him?

                                    Brief Answer:
Medocines till infection is settlrd, then surgery.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, an elucidate history and photograph.
Thyroglossal cyst needs to be excised in toto, meaning total excision to avoid recurrence.
Since it is infected at the moment continue medicines till the infection is well settled.
Once the infection is settled, please consult a head and neck surgeon so that a proper surgery can be done.
There is no other treatment for this condition.
I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask for relevant further query.

Total excision means and hyoid bone, right? Is it mandatory to do the surgery or i should wait till a certain age. It might move to a malign cyst? Is it a difficult surgery - to search for a great doctor, or is an ordinary one for dr? Tks a lot

                                    Brief Answer:
As explained.
Detailed Answer:
Total excision does not mean removal of that part of hyoid bone. If the tract is separate from the bone it is not needed to be removed in every case.
It does not transform to malignancy, such a relationship is not known to occur.
If it is not removed, it will get infected repeatedly and more times the infection more difficult will be the surgery.
Hence it is mandatory to get this removed.
Age: Earlier, the better. In a child the tract will be smaller.
Not difficult surgery, only a typical surgery.
Searching around, you will come to know who is the most competent Surgeon to excise this.
I can understand your feelings when you talk about a 5 year old son.
