Suggest Treatment For Thyroid Cancer

Posted on Sat, 16 Sep 2017
Question: My husband is 53 and in good physical condition. The past 6 to 9 months I have noticed issues with confusion and forgetfulness. He has had several instances of sleeping for 2 or 3 days. He will get up to go to the bathroom and then go back to sleep. We live in a small town where the health care is not very good. The local docs don't seem to want to dig. This is affecting several aspects of our life. He has had thyroid cancer. Thyroid removed. He did spend time in Iraq. He takes lamotragin.

Brief Answer:
Some possible causes and suggestions.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

Although I don't have the full information of the labs and medical history of your husband. --- But what I understand is that probably he needs a thorough and good mental status exam which needs to be done by a local psychiatrist.

- What you are describing may be either a side effect of using Lamotrigine for a long time or depression. The mental status exam will be able to tell that.

- Also, is he taking thyroid hormone after removing the thyroid? Hypothyroidism gives depression and/or fatigue. So checking the TSH, and making sure he has it within normal limits it is what I recommend too.

Hope this is helpful.
Please let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
