Suggest Treatment For Tightness And Pain In Calf And Thigh Muscles

Question: Dear doctor,

I had gone on a trek last weekend (12 kms one way) and after return from the trek, my calf muscles and thigh muscles have become tight and little painful if I touch it.

Please suggest measures to relax the muscles.

Thanks for your query.

From description it seems that you had developed muscle strain of calf and thigh muscles. Pain is due to resultant spasm of muscle.

I suggest you -

To give rest to the part and avoid activities that aggrevate the pain.

Doing hot fomentation and applying muscle relaxant gel will be helpful.

Do regular stretching exercises to relieve the spasm.

3 years back I had an ACL surgery in my right knee.
I have climbed Tirumala hills last year without much difficulty.
I did trek for 12 kms one way. There was little bit of uneasiness (though I do not think it was anything unusual).
Will such activities affect my knee? For, eg will it cause any arthritis or knee damage etc?
