Question: My 74.5 yo male friend has had a "rubber band" feeling - pulling left to right - in his chest above his nipples for 3 days, but thinks it is possibly heartburn. He doesn't think he should go to the ER; I do. What do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
He should go to ER

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Heart burn should have reduced with prilosec. Even antacids should have reduced it by now.
2. Continuing pain, persistent, and tightness in chest, indicates possible cardiac event.

Better to go to emergency for an ECG.

Hope it helps.
